Frequently Asked Questions
Can my child ride rollerblades, skateboards, or scooters to school?
Yes, all students in any grade may ride to school using rollerblades, skateboards, or scooters. However, we will not allow them to ride these things on school grounds. Please be sure your child knows he/she must carry his/her skateboard or scooter, and take off his/her rollerblades before entering the school building.Back to Top
My child needs to take medication daily. How will you make sure he/she will receive it?
Please label all medications and leave them in the school health office. Only our school nurse will hand out the medicine to students. Prescription medicines must be prescribed by a doctor and have documentation telling how much and how often your child must take the medicine. Please be sure to contact the health office ahead of time if you want your child taking over-the-counter medicines too.Back to Top
When do grades come out?
We divide the school year into four grading periods and send out grades on the Thursday after the end of each period.Back to Top
What are the school hours?
School begins at 8:40 a.m., with the tardy bell at 8:45 a.m. Please be in your seats before the tardy bell! School ends at 3:40 p.m. every day except for Monday. On that day, we release students early at 2:10 p.m. Parents, please don't bring your children to school any earlier than 8:00 a.m.; we do not have supervision before then.Back to Top
What should I do if my student is absent?
When at all possible, please notify us when your child is absent. A phone call is just fine. Students who are absent need to return with a note explaining the reason for being gone. An absence note is a must! Otherwise, we will have to record the absence as "unexcused."Back to Top
If I need to take my child out of school early, what steps should I follow?
Please check in with the front office to let us know you want to take your child out of school early. Once you arrive in our office, we will notify the classroom teacher and have him or her send your student to the office. What meals does the cafeteria serve and what does it cost?
Elementary Pricing School: Alice Byrne, Palmcroft, Rolle, Otondo, Desert Mesa, and Sunrise
We know that breakfast is the most important part of the day. That is why at Yuma School District One, we offer breakfast at no cost. We serve breakfast from 8:10 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. Please join us. If a parent or child would like to join a student and purchase breakfast, the cost is $2.00. Lunch is available to all students for $1.50 every day. If a parent or guest would like to join a student for lunch, the cost for the adult meal is $3.00.
You may fill out a free and reduced lunch application at any time during the school year if you think your child may qualify. If you would like to manage your meal account online or make an online payment, you may go to e-Funds for Schools. You just need the student’s eight-digit student i.d. number. See the cafeteria manager for more details. We look forward to serving you.
If your child brings a sack lunch from home, he/she may still purchase a juice or milk for 25 cents to go with the meal. Due to USDA guidelines, milk or juice is 25 cents, regardless of whether or not the student qualifies for free and reduced priced meals.Back to Top
What if my student forgets to bring lunch money?
We do not want any of our students to go hungry if they accidentally forget to bring lunch money. Students can charge their lunches up to three times. After the third time, students can't charge lunches, but we will give them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk until you pay the charges.Back to Top
